Savory waffles are more than just a pairing for fried chicken. These waffles have all the seasonings that are on top of everything bagels, cooked right into the waffle batter. I’m a fan of anything that you can eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There are so many opportunities for serving these savory waffles- eggs Benedict (as pictured), a twist on a classic BLT sandwich, a flavorful pastrami sandwich with melted Swiss cheese; the options are endless. I like to make a bunch of waffles and then freeze them so I can pop them in a toaster for breakfast when I’m in a hurry.
Mix the everything bagel seasoning. In a small bowl stir together the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic and onion until combined.
For the waffles:
Make the batter. In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda then set aside. In another large mixing bowl whisk together the buttermilk, butter and eggs. Slowly whisk the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
Heat waffle iron and add batter. Heat the waffle iron according to the manufacturers instructions. Once hot lightly spray the iron with vegetable spray then pour batter into the iron, leaving a 1 ½” border around the mix to the edges of the iron (it will spread out).
Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning. Top waffle sprinkle ½ teaspoon of the everything seasoning onto the top of the waffle.
Cook the waffles. Close iron and cook waffles until golden brown and crisp, about 3 minutes but can vary depending on waffle iron. Repeat the process with the remaining waffle batter.
